Toronto is a huge city and the most populous urban centre in Canada. The city has a population of nearly 3 million people and one of the largest and most popular urban agglomerations in North America. It was formed after the amalgamation of several cities which included Toronto, North York, Scarborough, York, Etobicoke and Borough of East York. When visiting Toronto, one of your first stopovers would be Art Gallery of Ontario which is reputed as Canada’s largest art gallery. It has a great collection of Canadian paintings and exhibits of the Henry Moore sculptures.
The Royal Ontario Museum is one of the largest and most visited museums in North America and features thousands of specimens and artifacts including Ancient China, dinosaurs, native Canadians, Medieval Europe, Canadian furniture, ancient Egypt, art deco and textiles.
The Ontario Science Centre in Toronto mostly houses scientific exhibits and includes a rainforest, sound proof tunnel, tornado machine and balance testing machines among others. The Bata Shoe Museum is largely devoted to footwear and shoes and has a wide collection of footwear from different world cultures. Then there is the Canadian National Exhibition and this annual agricultural exhibition is the largest fair in Canada with nearly 2 million people in attendance.
Other places that you shouldn’t miss include Spadina House, Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, Hockey Hall of Fame, the Black Creek Pioneer Village, Toronto City Hall and the Ontario Place among others. Another most visited place especially during summer and winter months is the Toronto Zoo.
Toronto is quite a beautiful city and even walking around is quite enough for you to feel the beauty and attractiveness of this place. There are many eclectic neighborhoods in Toronto that are quite fascinating like Toronto Botanical Gardens and Edward Gardens where you can enjoy the natural environment for hours without getting enough of it.
Tour companies offer specialty tours to certain areas of Toronto including downtown core where most of the attractions are located. Beaches in Toronto are quite beautiful and most of them have numerous attractions and amusement parks. Since most people traveling in Toronto don’t fancy beaching most of them are rarely crowded and are a perfect place to relax and sun bath.
The pedestrian only village of The Distillery District is largely dedicated to arts and entertainment and has fantastic art galleries, festivals and restaurants. Biking in Harbourfront and The Lakefront is an enjoyable activity especially on those weekends characterized by festivals and other sorts of celebrations. There are many and incredible shopping opportunities in Toronto and there are ample unique shopping places that you can’t resist to visit.
Guinness Book of World Records recognizes Yonge Street in Toronto to be the world’s longest street and it is one of the best shopping places in Toronto. Toronto Eaton Centre is a huge massive shopping mall and is largely recognized as the city’s landmark. The area is packed with many people and has an awesome mix of visitors and locals.
